Ericom Software has announced Ericom AccessCloud, a comprehensive new initiative for ISVs who want to both SaaS-enable their single tenant Windows client/server applications, and support their customers’ migration of their IT services to a Cloud infrastructure. AccessCloud provides quick and easy means for Webification and SaaS-enablement of Windows applications, enabling thousands of ISVs with Windows client / server applications to get to the Cloud and provide their applications on a SaaS model.
“We are a software company that focuses on developing products that enable users to access applications from legacy to midrange to cloud services, from any device, in a fast and simple way,” said Ilan Paretsky, VP of Marketing at Ericom. While the company’s original focus at its inception in 1993 was on legacy systems, its core emphasis eventually became Windows desktops and applications, which makes it a Citrix competitor.
“We offer an alternative to Citrix that is more cost- effective and simpler,” Paretsky said.
“We take the opposite approach from Citrix in trying to bring order and provide ubiquitous access in an increasingly complex world,” said Dan Shappir, Ericom’s CTO. “They have different clients for every device. We decided, as a smaller company, that we couldn’t do that, and we decided to leverage a ubiquitous technology — the Web and HTML5 the new standard for HTML which evolves it from a platform for documents to a platform for applications where you can built applications on top, turning it into an application platform. Apple and Google and Firefox and now Microsoft are embracing HTML5 as a platform for building applications. So an app built on it will run on any device with an HTML5 browser, and so our remote access client can run on any device out there.”
AccessCloud is based on this technology.
“It assists ISVs, MSPs and hosters in transforming Windows applications into hosted cloud-based services,” Shappir said. “ISVs could rewrite their own application as a cloud-based application, but that means rewriting the applications, and that can be hard — or impossible. AccessCloud can be the key to doing that.
“AccessCloud is not a product, but an initiative, which enables multitenancy of these applications,” Shappir added. “It takes a client-server Windows application and puts it in the cloud and provides multitenancy.”
With AccessCloud, ISVs can offer their applications as a full SaaS offering within weeks, compared to the extensive time it would take to re-develop or port the applications to Web technologies. The applications than become accessible from any end-point device, with access through the HTML5 browser.
“Three types of companies can work with us on this,” Shappir said. “ISVs themselves, hosting providers, who want to get more resources hosted on their infrastructure, and MSPs who want to be able to offer additional managed services.”
Cylliance is the first cloud-hosting company to implement Ericom AccessCloud in its service offering, which includes Cloud-enabled Aprima, a leading Electronic Health Record software for the healthcare industry.
“Aprima was a legacy application which fits the mold exactly for us,” Paretsky said. “Cylliance turned to us, and Aprima became a cloud-hosted application within days, without the need to redevelop the application.”
